Brain Fart

I love yo yo's I really do. I love making them just as much as looking at them.

I was having a brain fart when drawing up my patterns and figuring out the measurements so I took a break and decided to re-organize the stash. I found some more stuff I had forgotten about. I went to several auctions this past summer and picked up some really great things. There was one particular auction that I attended that had a gi-normous stash of vintage fabrics and you better believe I bid on that baby to death. Of course I won, but true to my nature, I put it away and forgot about it....well during my break from designing patterns as I was looking for something else to make while re-organizing, I came across this bag of pre-cut circles--all vintage fabrics....
I suddenly felt the urge to make some yo-yo's. I pulled out the X'mas looking fabrics and stopped when I got to this point.

I really could spend all day and making these, but certainly not without the help of these.... if you don't have them yet, you really should get them..... it just makes it THAT much easier. (cue the staples commercial here.)

I really did use these. I like to keep them in the plastic cause I'm pretty anal about certain things... especially about keeping things where they belong. Don't ask.
So after looking at the yo-yo's I started to have another brain fart..... really this mommy brain is killing me! I can't think of what to do, there is no way I'll make a quilt completely out of yo-yo's it just doesn't appeal to me, and I've already done a flower garden quilt out of yo-yo's and also placed them on a bag..... so what can I do with them? This is where I would be asking you all for some ideas.
Well in the mean time, the brain fart I had passed for a moment and I thought I came up with a genius idea-- I thought- "Let me turn these into hair barrettes! and make some matching dresses or x'mas outfits for my girls!"

I placed a ribbon and everything, the only thing left to do was hot glue to to the barrette piece.

Then I realized something..... There was a major flaw to my idea:

Notice anything?

Well let me tell you..... my girls hardly have any hair.... HOW THE HECK WILL THEY USE THESE BARRETTES?

So back to the drawing board and me asking you for some help. What can I do with my yo-yo's? I'll have to post back here later to show you the final product.

Wow, you are so creative!!! Your craft room is amazing!!! Now the Joanns factor, I would say, awesome. My husband would cringe, though I have cut down on my hobby craft spending, so he would have nothing to worry about, if that was to happen to me. Though, Next year could be different. What sweetie kids you have.

I am new to your blog. I bought a yoyo maker as well. I keep it in the packaging too so I will remember what it is for years from now when I pull it out! When my daughter was little, I used to use clips to attach things to her hair. Those yoyos would look lovely in your daughters' hair with clips (barettes).

Yo-yos are so addictive! I love them.... I once made a garland for my Christmas tree out of yo-yos... it was so cute!

So glad to have found your journal. I am from West Virginia and love it there.

And I love yo-yo's, but I've never seen one of those tools. I've always done the old-fashioned way. I can't imagine how those work but I can't wait to look into it.

Love those sweet little faces.

Smiles,
Lea

What about making them the pockets on the girl's dresses? Or you can embellish bags (if you are going to put presents in tote bags or reusable bags of some sort) with them.

My girl's didn't have enough hair for a ponytail until they were each three. I feel your pain! Beth

I have wondered if those yo-yo makers work!! You can also make dolls with yo-yo's!

Wonderful fabric. I can't imagine how that gadget works either. I also was thinking of headband, waistband, belt. Put them back to back with the end of a ribbon in the middle and have them dangle from something. LOL I don't make myself very clear.

Easy!

Hot glue them to a hair band for the older one, and a cloth (stretchy kind) hair band for the baby! I bet it will look really cute!

Oh my gosh! These babies are gorgeous!! I could make yoyos all day too. I just make bedspreads out of them - or table runners - no little girls here, just boys!

What if you attach velcro to them for the barrets? I've seen velcro used for holding things in little babies hair.

I just started making yo yo's also with those things and it is addictive. I have been just filling a jar with them to use for some thing someday. Charm packs are just the right size!

Dp check out Letties blog as This and That suggested. She makes the cutest things with yo yo's, hundreds of things actually!

So cute - your girls, and the yo-yos! How about stitching the yo-yos to a stretch lace headband - no problemo!

I love it! Your kids are so cute! Try this: string the yoyos together and make a garland for your chrismas tree. It really turns out pretty! Good luck!

I adore yo-yos too! They are so fun to make, expecially with that tool. You can string them together on some rick-rack and make a garland. They make really cute applique flowers too.
